Please Come to My Book Launch Party!

Hi readers! I'm excited to announce that tickets can now be purchased for my book release party, which will be held the evening of Saturday, September 15th, in New York City. The cost of the ticket will go entirely to Pets Alive, a no-kill animal sanctuary. I've added two purchase options: one for $10 tickets, one for $25 if you're feeling especially generous. We will have a festive evening with snacks, drinks, cake!, a book signing, and a fabulous gift bag for each attendee.

I'm so pleased to be able to make this a charity event, thanks to a few special friends who are sponsoring the event and providing awesome crafty gifts for attendees:

  • Coats & Clark, maker of many fine crafty products, who are celebrating their 200th anniversary this year!
  • Kollabora.coma new fashion-forward DIY community, connecting inspiration, tutorials and the best, hard-to-find supplies.
  • The Sewing Studio, where I teach, is generously providing the space for the event.
  • Creativebug.com, a fab new site for video tutorials (and the home of my next series of online classes!). There will be free memberships for the first 50 people to arrive at the party!
  • STC Craft, my beloved publishers.

Please purchase your tickets here. There is a limited amount of space, so buy now! I hope you will be able to be a part of my book launch party.

  38. Gertie, my husband's 85 year old aunt told us that my husband was always "the berries". We had to look it up on urban slang to find the meaning!

I think you and your blog are the berries! As a farmer's wife I can't get to NYC this month, as there is still much work to do on the farm. I'll be there in spirit: you go girl!

  51. I hope its ok to post on this thread. But I bought your book, it arrived at the weekend and I think its brilliant. At last a book that covers everything I want to know and doesn't think hand sewing is the poor cousin to machine sewing (I hand sew 99% of everything I make...even dresses). Your sizing is the closest I've found to a normal shape.
It prompted me to dig out the meter of material I've had in my stash and have a go at the pencil skirt. And already started planning the fabric for future projects. Icy pink brocade with red lining anyone?

  52. Gertie... congratulations and what a wonderful idea having a charity event! I've already booked my flight, but to my 40th class reunion. Oh it would be so fun to rock a retro outfit for that! Have a wonderful time celebrating all your hard work!

  53. Gertie..hope you have a wonderful book signing event! Sounds super cool! I tried to convince my honey to take me next weekend as he's from NYC, buuuuttt we're about 6 hrs. away! Best of luck and I'll be ordering your book soon!

  54. I just spent a fabulous weekend reading through every word of your wonderful book! Mine finally arrived last Friday. (I ordered through Crafter's Choice book club, which I firmly believe has books delivered on horseback by old-timey cowboys, since they are always ridiculously SLOW. But enough about that.) It is a truly fabulous book; anyone who is hesitating should just go ahead and buy it already! The photos, descriptions, and instructional material are all top-notch. The patterns are also terrific, and although I am beyond the size range offered, I picked up a world of tips and techniques anyway. Just wanted to congratulate you on producing such a great book.

  55. Enjoy the party! Wish I lived nearby :) Got your book a few days ago, and I'm in LOVE. It's beautiful & so inspiring! <3

  56. I loved meeting you in JoAnn's today! Hope I didn't scare you off! You are on your way!
    Go girl!

  57. I received my book from Amazon last Friday and stayed up until I had read it cover to cover! Loved it!!

My sister wants to start sewing and I keep telling her she needs to get a good beginners manual. Your book will be perfect. However,I consider myself to be an advanced sewer (I've take your Bombshell class!) and I found lots of good info plus the free patterns. It has something for sewers at every level.

The thing I love best about the book is your writing style. You write like I would talk if visiting with a good friend. You aren't afraid to use the words we use in real life!

Whoever did your illustrations deserves a huge compliment as well. Beautifully done; she seems to have captured your spirit in her drawings.

Wishing you great success and joy at your book party!

  58. I received my book from Amazon last week as I pre-ordered it, it is the best book that I have ever bought and feel that I will improve my sewing skills no end. I have so much to learn. I also completed my bombshell dress and have the starlet jacket to do at some time. I have purchased my coat pattern and waiting for the sew along to start, following your courses has awakend a new interest in sewing for me. I feel so pleased when I finish an item and receive compliments of how nice it is. :) well worth all the effort. Hope to make many of the garments from the book theres so much information in there I cant wait to start my next project.

  59. I wish I could attend, but alas, I live too far away and can't add in a trip this weekend! I just got your book and it is gorgeous! I had to pick it up from my front office before coming to work, and I was so excited I ripped open the box and started reading it on the metro.
