Covered Buckle Kits

Did you all see Casey's fab belt tutorial yesterday? It's just the kind of thing I've been meaning to post about for ages! Just a quick tip from me on the topic today: kits to cover your own buckle can be hard to find, and I know a lot of sewists resort to buying vintage kits when they can. But I recently found a company that manufactures these kits and sells them online! The company is Maxant, and they have buckles in a wide array of shapes and sizes. I love the circle and oval shapes, and they've got your basic rectangle and square buckles too. You can also buy their kits (in quantities of 3) on Create for Less.

I figure if all we vintage-loving ladies support them, Maxant will hopefully stay in business for many years to come. Go forth and make belts!

  1. Another fabulous source (though not DIY) for covered belts, buttons and buckles is Pat's Custom Buttons in Lodi, CA. She doesn't have a website, but she does AMAZING work, quickly and at reasonable cost. You can call for a catalogue. Here's her contact info:

  3. This makes life so much easier! I've found a few on ebay, but often because of the age the adhesive template has dried so things can get a little messy trying to glue the fabric upon the belt. Awesome!

  11. I wanted to add the kits from Create for Less are only for the buckles. You can buy the actual belt and buckle kit (which includes the belt backing and eyelets) on Maxant's website. I am actually in the process of (hopefully) carrying the kits in my Etsy shop from these very people! I too hope that we can all generate the love for Maxant's products because they are the only really good supplier of these kits left from what I've been able to find. Cheers to belt and buckle madness!!! Yay!
