The Collected Coat Vlogs

Thank you all so much for your lovely compliments on my coat! I loved reading each and every one of your comments. Since I know a lot of you are interested in sewing your own coats in the future, I thought I'd collect the links to my coat vlogs in one easy-to-find place. Here goes!

  1. Shaping the Undercollar
  2. Shaping the Coat Front
  3. Shaping the Back and Shoulder
  4. Tailoring the Collar
  5. Setting in the Sleeves
  6. Hemming
  7. Interlining for Warmth
  8. Hemming the Lining
  9. Inserting the Lining/Understitching the Facing
  10. Finishing Touches
Whew! There they are, all in one handy bundle. I hope you find these useful!

Also, if I may, I'd like to extend a special thanks to Jeff for his generous filming, lovely photography, and unwavering coat-making support. And another thanks to Pip and Henry for all their help along the way. I couldn't have done it without you jerks!

  1. Bookmarking this post now. Thanks for sharing, and beautiful job on the coat!

  2. Your coat is beautiful! I've been working on the Colette Patterns Lady Grey and have been watching your vlogs for helpful tips when assembling mine. I just bought those applique scissors and I love them. Thanks for suggesting them! It was really fun seeing your project come to fruition. Congratulations!

  3. Gertie, you're a gem. Thanks for sharing and all your hard work.

  4. Thanks so much for this post. I'll be linking it to one of my post for quick reference.

  5. You look great!!!! Love the coat.

  6. I have a "Gertie coat vlog" marathon planned for lunch today! ;-) I have some lovely checked wool from a friend, a picture of a '40s pattern that I like, and plenty of time, so someday I'll have a handmade coat, too! Love your coat; it's a great style and color for you!

  7. Congrats on finishing your coat. Nice!

  8. Your coat is beautiful. Quite the accomplishment in showing your special talent.

  9. Man your coat is so gorgeous!
Now I have to come and steal it ;)

  10. Fantastic! I'm definitely going to include this in my weekly links roundup. So helpful! :)

  11. Thank you! This is of great help :)

  12. Thank you!!! In fact this morning I was thinking about your coat, I'm gonna start mine and I would like to do it really warm, the problem I have with the vlogs is that sometimes because of the language I don't know the name of the materials, but I'll watch them more than once in order I understand them correctly. Of course watching you doing the sewing is very helpful for me!
    I have the pattern already it's the Butterick 4928 Retro '52 , just I need a nice fabric =)

  13. Just gorgeous Gertie! The color and the fit are perfect! Enjoy your handmade coat!

  14. Beautiful coat! I think red was a great idea, really makes your skin pop!

  15. Wonderful work!.... Can we have some gorgeous photos of the pussycats now? I think they are overdue.

  16. And another one today! That vintage hairstyle book looks so fantastic sadly my hair is all wrong for it - too short, too flyaway, and if I try to tame it, it loses all volume... Oh, to have heavy locks! (I have to admit that in your last coat vlog I got rather distracted at one point by the bounce in your hair - not because what you were saying wasn't interesting, but because I'm really envious of glossy, bouncy hair!). Mind you, I have two little girls, so maybe I could try some vintage hairstyles on them instead!

  17. Your coat is to die for!!

I linked to your vlogs on Craft Gossip Sewing:

Thanks for your comments; I read each and every one! xo Gertie
