This bodice is made from New Look 6886, and the skirt is a simple rectangular dirndl. The dress is made from a printed Swiss dot cotton that I got from Fabric Mart ages ago. I accessorized with a wide belt. I'm wearing a chiffon petticoat. (I bought it here, and it's the perfect amount of floofiness.)
The rick rack trims the neckline, peeking out from the bodice. There are two rows on the skirt as well, and they're just stitched flat. It's easy to apply, you just have to measure carefully from your hem to make sure you don't get crooked rows!
It's also our first Independence Day with Rosie! Of course, a matching kerchief was in order.
How cute is she?
Pip came over to check out the action. Everyone is getting along great!
Not sure how we ever lived without sweet Rosie. She's such a gem.
Hope you're having a great day!
Love your dress!, love all your dresses for that matter.
ReplyDeleteLove the dress and the pup! The fabric is really great. Happy 4th!
ReplyDeleteI hope you bought the frilly panties to go with the skirt!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful :)
ReplyDeleteReally, really cute!
ReplyDeleteYou both look beautiful! I never comment but love to visit. Happy 4th!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet doxie. I have been wanting to make my little dog a kerchief for a while, and now I have one in th eirhgt size from petsmart to copy. I think I'll make him a patriotic one today!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is utterly lovely! And I'd missed the announcement about Rosie - what a cutie.

So cute...the dress is so nice and the puppies <3
ReplyDeleteYou had me with the dog and cat but the dress is adorable. Great style. PS, I have a black lab who always wears a neck scarf. She fusses if it is off. So, every holiday etc. she gets a new outfit. This morning her red, white and blue is a left over from a patriotic quilt. She looks so cute. Your Rose is obviously in love with you and so glad everyone is getting along.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is just divine!!! I love your swiss dot fabric...swoon!!!

ReplyDeleteLove these photos - you're glowing! Maybe it is the happiness from having such a wonderful dog!
ReplyDeleteAw great family photos! Love the way you used the ricrac at the neckline; do you have any close-up pics? I was thinking of doing something similar and would love to see how you treated the area where the straps join, in particular :)
ReplyDeleteAs a friend of mine says, "The Universe Knows . . . " She is the perfect addition to your home. Take care and happy 4th!

The fabric is wonderfully evocative of my Mother in a self made with white gloves, headscarf and matching shoes and handbag Jackie O style!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress. That fabric is just lovely. Rosie looks cute again too!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated 4th July!
I'm really not a dog person, but Rosie is adorable! And you both look fabulous, so cute and matching!
ReplyDeleteToo cute and you and the dress are darling, too! Congrats on becoming an auntie also. Now you have someone for which to make all those cute little vintage dresses.
ReplyDeleteYou and Rosie look so sweet!
ReplyDeleteLove the print on your dress and Rosie's frock looks adorable too! That unconditional love is great isn't it!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress. And Rosie is great too.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress, especially the dotted swiss.. I haven't seen that in a while! I have avoided ric-rac, but you really did a great job of accenting with it! Small town life must agree with you... you are glowing.
ReplyDeleteI have a few yards of that fabric too. I got it to make a blouse...but haven't. I love how it looks on the gathered skirt. Maybe I should make a dress instead.
ReplyDeleteAdorable, as usual!
ReplyDeleteFabulous dress...what undergarment would you recommend wearing with this type of bodice? Does it have bra cups built inside? or a strapless bra? or nothing? I have that pattern and am wanting to try it - just wondering what might work best. Thanks, Angela
ReplyDeleteSo adorable. The fabric, the dress, the little creatures, you!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress. The rick-rack is an inspired touch.
ReplyDeleteYour blog keeps me inspired to sew. I'm in awe of your skill and talent. Are you self-taught?
Love the dress!
ReplyDeleteFun and Festive! I love it!
ReplyDeleteHey Gertie!
ReplyDeleteI just purchased your book off of Amazon! I can't wait for September to come, which is when Amazon said it would be released. I am the quintessential lazy seamstress, but I promise to use your couture techniques on the book garments! Can't wait! I realize this comment has nothing to do with you lovely 4th of July dress, but I had to share the news!
Lucha Lovely
