Very good, the dress is really nice on you. I think newer patterns can be easier to work with than vintage ones, I find.
What a perfect dress up/dress down frock. Very elegant in black, much more grown-up than the prints they used to illustrate it. A great reminder to 'see past the envelope'!
Very nice dress and you are really a dress-girl, even every thing you're wearing looks so nice. And I love the shoes, especially the colour.Your room's floor is great, by the way. Greeting from GermanyMaggie
Very nice LBD :)
Very, very pretty!
What a great version. The neckline and bodice detail make it special but not too much. I can see this at many different summer occasions. Beautiful.
Looks great! size 14 seems like it would be too big for you. I am new to sewing and am wondering if you measure and follow according to the pattern label? When I've done this before , things still come out way too big. Thanks!
Wow! That seemed fast! I'm so jealous! Another fantastic job! You and you're clogs look great! Thank you for another beautiful inspiring project, I always look forward to reading your blog.
Oh I love the classic shape. Really beautiful!
Thats great. :o)
Lovely dress - I like that you can dress it up or down, & yes - the green clogs look just great with it!
Oh it's so pretty and I love the photos with your hat box. Also, those shoes surely go with everything...what a great colour!!!
I love your sewing posts. You are such an inspiration to me! Since I collect sewing machines (long story), I am finally learning to sew. I check your blog frequently and I have taken your "bombshell dress" course. Keep doing awesome things! :)Also, your floor is abolutely fab!
Awesome LBD...and that necklace is so cute!
it is so cute! and your stencilled floor - OMG!
I love your new dress and the green shoes. I am wearing a fulls skirted LBD at work today even though it is a casual day. : )
Very cute dress that looks great on you. I have green shoes too that match everything, so sorry Mom.
Love that dress, adorable
Love the dress. The neckline is just fantastic! I think your mom would disagree that my leopard print flats go with everything too? :)
Although I don't like to criticize anyone on the basis of their personal taste, your mother is wrong. Those shoes DO go with everything -- just as trees, shrubs and grass never clash with any other colors.
Gorgeous! Love the neckline and the scooped back. I'll definitely add this to my "sew list."
I love it! Yes, mother sometimes think that our tastes are off. I was lucky when my mom and grandmother liked my purple Clarks Purse shoes. I really didn't think they would. Not that I care. And damn! I need to get into my sewing room and sew up all of my cut out stuff. I just spent another $200 on fabric that I won't be able to cut out until the end of summer as it is!
Love your dress Gertie! I bought the same pattern on your suggestion! I'm just not a quick as you are at getting it sewn up. I have a little adjustment in the bust area then I'll be on my way. I can see several versions of this dress in my wardrobe. You look fantastic! Thanks for posting this. You are such an inspiration!
It's beauty-ful! And I'd wear the hell outta those shoes if I owned them.

I love it. You look stunning! Still has the vintage vibe even though it is a new pattern. BTW, I wear green shoes as a neutral with many, many garments. ;)
it looks wonderful!
You always make fabulous stuff. This fits superbly, I love it. And I love it with the pink necklace!
i love your green clogs and the dress very cute ur fan from New Zealand
I agree that green goes with everything. My garden has every color flower and they all match the lawn. We already know that black goes with everything. So, enjoy the green shoes. The dress is lovely.
You look lovely! I agree with Jel though, I spoke with you once in Novi at the Sewing Expo, and you looked tiny. I usually wear a 14 but think I will have to go up if you are wearing a 14.
So cute! Love! And of course green shoes go with everything. But most importantly, I CANNOT WAIT for the post about your GORGEOUS floor!
Fabulous dress. I love the dark colour. And your shoes! You really have a knack for putting your own twist on patterns. I love this blog, gertie!Nothywww.aftagley.blogspot.com
Thanks, friends! On the sizing issue: my measurements actually put me at a size 16, but I always size down to a 14 in the bodice because there's so much ease in some patterns. This one has a lot--I think 3" of ease!
Sorry, had to delete the last comment. Computer was looged in as my boyfriend's profile! Such a cute dress. I think it is something that can easily be dressed up or down. Will have to add this pattern to my wish list. Thanks for sharing.
Green shoes DO go with everything! I used to have a pair of kelly green Doc Martens that I wore with all kinds of things. Love the dress, especially the back neckline - a scoop like that would show off my tattoo nicely.
Gorgeous and elegant - great job. BTW I love the colour of those shoes!!
LOVE the neckline. And I agree, you green clogs go with everything. That color green is perfect, it's almost a neutral (like leaves go with flowers!).
Well, I have to say, you're mother is right. We tend to think or to wish that beloved items go with everything, but they simply don't. They would fit some short cut pants perfectly, but they make every dress look a bit... dull? You tend to wear elegant things with not elegant shoes, except your pumps.Nevertheless, great dress and many greetings!
You look great in that dress - and how nice that it has pockets. I really like your floor!
Great dress. I will make up that pattern. I looked past this one but it looks so great. I will try this one. By the way your sewing room looks fantastic !!!!
You NEVER disappoint!!!! Your floor looks fabulous- Is your back a little achy? I love the necklace, I was wondering with all your fantastic tats if you wear jewelry? So cute! Your LBD is a good one! I am always looking for a LBD and a LWB Pattern- Little White Blouse Pattern- a good basic.. any suggestions?
Isn't it wonderful when the pattern just fits! Yeah!Cute, cute dress.
What beautiful designs you have made! THe dress turned out amazing. I am a new follower and you have inspired me very much, thank you!
Oh! What an easy-breezy dress! And it look fabulous. I'm totally bookmarking this for when the warmer weather rolls around down here.
Very nice! Here's a question for you, how many dresses do you have in your wardrobe???? really?! (that you made yourself, of course.) :)/Agneta
I really like this dress.Gretchen, I'm wondering why you choose the lapped zipper over an invisible one? thanks :o) Sophia
I hope you find imitation flattering because I've now added a lbd of this ilk to my sewing list. Although, I'll be using an embroidered cotton voile (that's been languishing in my stash for several years now) and a vintage 50's pattern that I've made into a TnT one. I'm just debating between sleeves or no sleeves....hmmm.Thank you so much for the inspiration! It's such a great idea and your's looks so lovely!
This looks great and so well made! XxxX http://thesecondhandrose.blogspot.co.uk/
How fun to see this made in black - very classic! Just made this for my 20yo with some lovely pink and teal Amy butler. Fabulous fit and looks gorgeous!
lovely! Im gonna do that too (eventhough Ive allready made around 20 dresses)...cant have enouhg dresses
Absolutely gorgeous! Just came across your blog today and I'm loving it!!
Thanks for the inspiration! I just made the 1803 dress. LBD with eyelet and because of your piece on ease I deceided to cut a 4 instead of a 10 (as the envelop said) and it fits like a glove!
Like everyone else, I hate to contradict a mom, but she's wrong and it's gorgeous with the green clogs. I love the floor. I love the dress. I love everything about this post. I'm now going to read the rest of your blog rather than getting started on 1803.
the dress looks fabulous - and so does the floor! Thanks for always being such an inspiration. All three of my daughters would look cute in that dress.
I never knew you'd used this pattern! It's one of my favorites! I've made it at least three times. I really love it! It fit right out of the envelope just as you said but I didn't add anything to the waist length. Yours looks AWESOME!! just like mine LOL!
I love this pattern. I'd like to make one in every color and print. Loved the fit straight from the envelope. I didn't change a thing when I made it in a size six. It fit my granddaughter perfect!! Your dress, shoes and floor look AWESOME!! Love your blog!
Thanks for your comments; I read each and every one! xo Gertie
