Today's Outfit {6.1.11}

Are these outfit posts supposed to be super creative or something? I feel like this outfit is too boring to warrant a post. I will say that writing these helps me put a little extra care into my appearance, so yay for that! Today I'm working at home all day, and pretty much sewing non-stop in preparation for the online course I'm filming next week. (More to come on that front.) I did throw on this outfit when I got out of bed, and then accessorized it a bit to run some lunchtime errands. Here's the scoop:

Blouse: Ann Taylor Loft, several years ago
Shorts: made last summer, drafted in Kenneth King's Trouser Class
Accessorie(s): purple hair flower, bought in Jerome, AZ
Shoes: same boring Simple flats. I do love them so!

I'm going out with some girlfriends at 6:30, and I think this is perhaps acceptable for a casual evening out. We'll see how sweaty I am by that point considering it's ridiculously hot here today.

Okay, back to sewing!

  2. You look better than I do for working at home. You've accessorised! God, I bet you even wash as well ;-). {Slinks away inadequately}.

  4. I love your hair flower. It's so hot here the last 2 days I'm positively wilted. Our air conditioning is "faulty" at work - what a week to pick for it to go on the fritz!
Hoping to get some sewing done myself tonight!

  5. Eh, before you guys get too impressed, you should know that I've since removed all my undergarments and unbuttoned my blouse down to my waist. Claaaasssy.

  6. hahahaha that is priceless. Now THAT sounds like ME.......

  7. Hahaha! Going without undergarments is perfectly understandable in this miserable heat. But anyway, your outfit looked great in the photos.

  8. Love those shorts! I need to put them on my to-do list!

  9. Gertie, you make me feel so much better about not even putting a bra on today. It is soooo HOT here! Isn't working from home the best? :)

By the way, my verification word was 'amshic' as in ... "Yeah. That's right - Amshic, even on days where am not wearin' a bra."

  10. I love those shorts! Where can I find a beginner pattern to make something similar?

  11. I hope this doesn't sound like a total downer, but I not a huge fan of "outfit posts". To me they kind of say...I didn't have anything good to say so here's what I'm wearing. Do not get me wrong- I LOVE your blog. I don't want to sound like that reader that said you posted too much (btw...wtf is up with that?). I just don't think you should really worry about outfit posts. You already have so many great posts, between the items you sew and the daily dress feature. You show us what you're wearing when you post your completed projects. I think it could be energy spent better somewhere else.

  14. I just discovered your wonderful blog. Do you have a link to setting up a sewing area? I would like to see what that gridded cutting table is that you use.
Thanks for your time! Keep up the fabulous work.

  16. I am at home now too for the summer and I find myself getting all dressed up too just to be at home. Do you always run an errand around lunch? Do you feel somewhat like you get cabin fever? I do :0 Love your blog!

  17. I love those shorts.

I've decided that bermuda-length shorts don't do me any favors. The length of your shorts is so flattering.

  19. You are looking very summery! Considering we are enjoying 90+ degrees on the east coast very appropriate. I have moved into my loose, translated as no waist dresses. V8647 is a new favorite. You are so busy, hope you really enjoy the new work at home life.

  20. I was going to say you look adorable regardless and you woke up and got dressed, that is number one bonus in my book!

  21. Oh Gertie,
It's freeeeeeezing here this afternoon. While you show those lovely pins off in your sassy red shorts i'm snuggled in my socks, shoes, jeans, long sleeved top, woolen long cardigan/jacket & two mohair blankets... I've just turned the heater on as well. Brrrr lol

  22. Since I am rediscovering sewing for myself just now (as a teenager I used to sew all my clothes) I would love to win some Designer Techniques ;-)

  23. You look totally cute! We have been nearing triple digits here, so I totally understand your outfit change!

Someone commented that they don't like outfit post and I'm on the opposite side. I LOVE outfit post. Personally, they are a great source of inspiration and I even save some of the photos in a file to try to reproduce/copy. Sometimes they provide me with great ideas on how to wear clothes I already have but styled differently.

NEway, ♥ your blog and it's one of my all time favs so post anything you like.

  24. I agree with Dana above - I would much prefer a Style Dictionary post. If you decide you want to keep it I think you can work on the style of it (more pictures, less words?), but in general I think they're so overdone and you have so much else to offer.

  25. Hi guys! I'm kind of feeling like no matter what I post, there are going to be criticisms. Some people hate the Daily Dress, some people hate outfit posts, etc etc etc. I try to take feedback into account, but there's only so much I can do when everyone has their unique preferences. I'm going to keep doing outfit posts when it's interesting to me (not every day) and since there is a lot more variety on the blog these days, you can skip the posts you're not into. Thanks!

  27. You can please some people some time, but you can't please all the people all the time.

  28. I have the same flower from Jerome!! but in red! i am going to have to pull it back out now, you make it look so cute!

  29. That's the beauty of self-publishing blogs-- you post to please yourself!

Today I met a fellow PR member in my own town -- how cool is that? Anyway we were talking about sewing blogs and I said that one of the blogs I enjoy reading was Gertie's. She says "Oh, Everybody reads Gertie!"

I hope that gives you a lift today!

Thanks for your comments; I read each and every one! xo Gertie
