I've been listening to Adele non-stop in the sewing room today; I just adore her music and her retro vibe. I was reminded of her dress for the Grammys in 2009, which was commissioned by Anna Wintour and designed by Barbara Tfank. (Remember Tfank's lime green scalloped frock we admired a while back?)
I think this dress was such a lovely design for Adele. The hourglass shape is so beautiful on her and the whole thing is a wonderfully understated retro look.
Tfank also made her this gorgeous green evening coat. To die for!
Vintage Vogues 2903 (with the neckline band omitted) and 1137 would be a great starting point for this ensemble.
Only slightly off-topic: LOVE THE HAIR, GIRL.
Yes, I love the style of that dress, and the green coat is awesome! So many styles, so little time!
ReplyDeleteDear Gertie,
ReplyDeleteBecause most of the time I'm concentrated on opera and musicians. I've missed so much of the other great music . Thank you very much for bringing this woman to your post I will look forward to listening to her soon. She is very pretty as well and the clothes are dreamy .
Wow! I just love that shade of green for her! Fab choice!
ReplyDeleteI discovered her a few weeks ago on YouTube and instantly fell in love with her voice and style. This dress is so gorgeous, but that green coat is what really caught my eye--what a striking color!
ReplyDeleteHi Gertie,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely dress and so flattering for Adele. It gave me an idea and I'm not sure what you think but could you run a series of posts on flattering body shapes? I've been studying my vogue sewing book which has a section on how to best flatter a figure. I have sewn a number of garments that I love the look of but the reality for my body is that they are simply not flattering. Do you think you could choose a body shape, talk about how to highlight strengths and perhaps suggest patterns? I know this is a tremendous amount of work but it would be wonderful to have your input (and that of your readers - what works for them). I know it's a tricky area - but I really think it could be approached in a celebrate every type of figure way. What do you think? A sort of Trinny and Susannah for the sewing world?
Hi Gertie,
ReplyDeleteI loved this post. I wanted to second that I would really appreciate your input on which patterns would flatter certain figure types best. I tend to cling to the "looks good on most body types", and that is often not what I want.
She looks beautiful!! I love her music. We've had her new album in heavy rotation lately. You have to hear my kiddies singing Rolling in the Deep, lol!
ReplyDeleteI love Adele. Her voice is just hauntingly beautiful, as is she! =) Plus that shade of green is one of my all-time faves!!
ReplyDeleteI often sew along to Adele, too! I find her music (and other similarly groovin' tunes) is great for sewing up a storm!
ReplyDeleteDid you see Gwyneth Paltrow singing Turning Tabels on Glee? Not so great..
ReplyDeleteShe's been my favorite female singer for a few years now, but I don't follow the Grammys or things like that where I'd see her dresses. What fun to see them! That green is stunning, and black dress has such a great look. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteWhat is not to like about Adele?! Her voice is amazing; her look is divine and her sense of humour has me in tears of laughter. I have only ever seen her perform in very flattering outfits; whoever dresses her has great taste.
ReplyDeleteAdore Adele's looks...
ReplyDeleteAmazed at this green coat: my mum sewed a wool coat from my Easy Burda patterns just like this!! http://www.burdafashion.com/images/repos/1/000/001/716/000001716245
She took the collar off and the result is quite similar... I totally recommend this magazine for beginners. It uses to include vintage inspired outfits...
Love your blog, keep on giving us such interesting clues!!
Lovely as she and her music is, she's not making friends in the UK at the moment by moaning about how much tax she has to pay, as high tax bill = lots of money to start with.
ReplyDeleteI love Adele's style both music and fashion. I am like FayV in that there I fashions I would love to make, but I don't have that body anymore. It's not straight, it's curvier than when I was younger. I like my curves, just don't know how to dress them.
ReplyDeleteIt's fabulous clothes, and what's more, she looks fabulous in them - what not all fabulous clothes achieve. Nice!
