Happy Memorial Day! I thought we'd commemorate with a look that seems very WWII era to me. This is Dita Von Teese at Coachella this year, wearing Christian Dior RTW from Spring 2011. I love the subtle Hawaiian print of this jumpsuit and the sailor hat she paired it with. Plus: espadrilles!
The styling of this show was fabulous; I loved the hair and accessories.
For your own take on this look, I would pair a tropical-ish print like
this one:
Pair it with a retro romper pattern like
M6331:
Top it off with a jaunty sailor hat (I'm sure you've got a few of those around, right?) and you're done!
Have a lovely day, all!
Happy Memorial Day! I love how she wears DIOR to a outside concert.
ReplyDeleteI love the blue pants in the third picture - those are definitely going in my sewing inspiration folder!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Erika - wearing Dior to a dirty, sweaty, outside concert - LOVE! When I grow up, I'm definitely going to be that stylish.
funny enough, since my high school mascot was "The Skippers" (I kid you not) I might just have a dixie cup sailor hat stashed somewhere...
ReplyDeleteOooh. But the only tropical fabric in my stash is a heavy rayon swim material..Although the background color is yellow...
ReplyDeleteI love the outfit in the 3rd pic - could really see myself wearing something like that. Like the hats, too! Have a great holiday!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfits! Seeing pictures of Dita makes me want to dress more feminine than I have been.
ReplyDeleteI love nautical outfits. If you don't have half a dozen sailor caps, you can always make one (I'm tempted): http://sweetteakisses.tumblr.com/post/1399601039/round-sailor-hat
ReplyDeleteFunny, that pattern is on my to make list for the summer. I'm still not sure about rompers for adults but we shall see.
ReplyDeleteThat pattern looks so great. I've had this brown tropical floral in my stash forever that I've been dying to make into one.
ReplyDeletegreat retro look. I would need to go to the local amusement park to come up with the sailor hat, and of course, they paint your name on it!
ReplyDeleteI love the spring summer 2011 collection from Dior more than anything I have seen in a long time.
ReplyDeleteI am a sucker for anything nautical, so those outfits make my heart sing! Love them! :]
ReplyDeleteOh man you gotta stop posting the Dita outfits. I wanna make them all! I'm still working on the lookalike orangey-red Roland Mouret. It's coming along pretty good and I'm very excited about it.
ReplyDeletePosted a picture of the muslin so far in my Flickr
So gorgeous- I WISH I could pull off a play suit like that. And in the orange - fabulous! I love these DVT outfits you've been posting recently.
ReplyDeletethanks for this post! I have been wanting to make a romper for a long time so I went out to joanne to buy the mccall pattern you posted- it's adorable, can't wait to make it<3
ReplyDeleteThat collection is exactly what triggered my question to you about high-waisted sailor pants! I just LOVE those blue pants. So far I've collected a couple of pattern options but I'm definitely still looking for one that's more like the Dior look there.
ReplyDeleteDita can wear anything and look good, IMO, but I think for my own outfitting I'd go a bit less literal and skip the hat. Unless I was attending a marine event, but since I'm landlocked in Phoenix, that seems unlikely!
I just got that pattern! I'm planning to do it in chambray. I made a hawiian print romper last summer. Now is the time to bust it out.
ReplyDeleteI've been working on making up that very pattern! In a polka dot though... (Although I think I may have run into a snag and run out of fabric. *sigh*) Love the Dior version Dita wore--and it makes me want to dig out all the sailor hat castoffs I've snagged from my husband over the years. hehe!
