But what I really love is the black lace overlay on the yoke. It almost dresses down the whole effect a bit, being a more casual lace than, say, a Chantilly. It looks to me like guipure (like these), possibly in cotton.
The dress's shape has a very 60s feel, with the bell-shaped skirt. Wouldn't it be fun to grab some lovely satin, a bit of lace, and a simple pattern and whip up something similar?
May your weekend be filled with satin and lace!
That is a very cute dress! I adore that teal blue color. :]
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhhhhhhhh! Erdem... So beautiful beyond words!
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful! Very much my style of dress. I love the black and blue together... if only my local sewing stores sold decent-quality satin.
ReplyDeleteI love that pattern... luckily I have it :)
ReplyDeleteReally nice dress. It is so dressy but the lines are really simple, my kind of style. This series has been really interesting.
ReplyDeleteI am loving "the Daily Dress."
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to search out all this wonderfulness and share it with us!
Gertie,
ReplyDeleteI love the daily dress! It is so fun to see all the wonderful dresses you find. Please keep it coming. My favorite this week is this blue satin with the black lace - so feminine!

Although it wouldn't be satin, it would be cool to get the same effect with a dress made of tablecloths, crocheted lace for the overlay and maybe damask for the rest. I have re-purposing on the brain today..
ReplyDeleteI found your blog a few weeks ago and i love it! This dress is wonderful and has inspired me back to my sewing room and my mums old patterns
ReplyDeletethanks!
love the lace and teal color, but not a huge fan of the cut. I've always been apposed to formal short sleeved dresses - I prefer cap sleeves, long sleeves, or sleeveless
ReplyDeleteThat's just me though :) I can still appreciate that the dress is gorgeous
Lovely Pinup, I know what you mean about the cap sleeves on a formal dress, but maybe some opera length gloves would fix this problem?
ReplyDeleteMy own bias is against short, "formal" dresses, but they are seen so often on the red carpet, aren't they? And I think they may often be the preference of the prom set as well.
Omigosh, this is the pattern my mother used to sew my high school graduation dress! Beautiful, over-sized bird's eye pique lined with batiste. Wish I still had it! Thanks for memory lane.

ReplyDeleteGood job. That dress is awesome. I love blue dresses and that never get old style.
ReplyDeleteYou are finding some lovely dresses! You're quite right about the effect of the lace - not on its type, though, I think - to me, it looks like bobbin lace (probably machine-made, but still the type).
