Coat Vlog #10: Finishing Touches!

video

Believe it or not, the coat is finished! I'm going to give it a final press today and then Jeff and I are going to do a little photo shoot on our roof. I'll post pictures on Monday! Here's my final vlog on coat-making, where I show you a couple of the finishing touches: sewing on the buttons, how I hemmed the sleeves, and tacking the lining to the coat.

Here's the thread chain tutorial I mentioned. Let me know if you have any questions!

You may need a snap to hold the edge of your lapel down flat.

  8. When you run thread through beeswax isn't there a danger of the thread leaving a greasy residue on your fabric when you start to sew? Would love to know. The coat looks gorgeous!

  14. Gertie, I am really looking forward to your finished coat. And I have a question - sorry if you've answered it - why didn't you make the raglan-sleeved coat from VoNBBS?

  17. ejvc, the reason I didn't make the raglan coat from VoNBBS was that I didn't want to skip so far ahead in the book . . . it's one of the advanced projects. Plus, it wasn't my dream winter coat. I think it will be nicer for a lightweight coat!

  18. Gertie, I just found your blog. Do you work as a seamstress for pay or do you simply sew the vintage clothes for yourself?

Thanks for your comments; I read each and every one! xo Gertie
