Accoutrements: Pin Curls!

Well, we're back home in New York, safe and sound. We had such a lovely holiday! Six whole nights at my parents' home in Arizona with lots of food and fun. I tried to entertain everyone by sporting a different hairdo everyday, all of them learned by watching tutorials on YouTube. This is one of my favorites, a classic pin curl set.

Here's the video I watched to learn the technique. I set the curls on dry hair, and used a styling putty as a setting lotion. I left them in while I slept, and voila! Lovely, lush curls. I modeled my 'do as we walked around Jerome, a magical former mining town near my parents' house. After its mining days, Jerome became a ghost town, but now it's filled with charming little shops, galleries, and restaurants. I stopped into Magdalena's Bazaar, my favorite boutique, and came across this lovely purple flower hair pin that I knew would be the perfect accessory for my curls.

I've been experimenting with lots of other retro styles - I can't wait to show you the results!

P.S. I must have been a very good girl this year, because I got the Threads archive DVD that I was longing for. It's truly amazing!

  2. That's a great look on you!

Do you read Beauty is a thing of the Past? http://beautyisathingofthepast.blogspot.com/

You will lose days looking at retro looks--but they all have styling instructions from the beauty shop trade mags the scans are from.

I love pin curls, they are the perfect vintage look and they last so much better in my hair.

  6. I just love your hair--and the purple flower. Mom used to set my hair in pin curls for special occasions when I was a kid. My straight, fine hair never turned out as gorgeous as yours.

And Jerome! I am drinking tea right now from my favorite mug from a pottery studio in Jerome. Wish I had bought more there. Such a cool place!

  8. Oh curse my poker-straight, super fine hair! I would love to try these styles, but know they'll fall out the minute I'm done. Boo-urns. My hair is the bane of my existence, I'm so envious of people like you who have lovely lush hair.

On the up-side, My bf got me the Threads DVD for Christmas. It will be waiting for me when we get home. Have you looked tried it out yet? What's it like? I can't WAIT to get my hands on mine!

  11. That is so 40's, love it. Now you need a 40's dress, maybe the walkaway precursor?

  12. The pin curls are so pretty. My hair doesn't cooperate with the pretty retro hair styles, so I will enjoy looking at yours!

On a side note, I love Jerome. It's such a great little town.

Somewhere, there's a joke about not jumping, but my brain isn't receiving tonight.
(But my secret work is luniness.)
