I made the dress in this fabric, which is a drapey synthetic stretch crepe. I really love the drape of it. The collar is a bit of white cotton eyelet, backed in organdy (see post on that here).
I raised the armholes by making the side seam 1/2" higher underneath the arm and then blending a new line into the armhole.
Oh! I cut my hair too.
And set in curls.
The last few days I've been going for a flip, but it's not quite as dramatic as I would like. I think I need to turn to a curling iron rather than my blowdryer.
My goal tomorrow is to photograph the other two versions of this dress! And also start sewing that kitty print dress, which is all cut and ready to go.
I love the haircut! So cute!
ReplyDeleteGreat haircut Gertie! And really loving the Courtney Love dress <3

ReplyDeleteThis look suits you so well!!! I LOOOOOVE your hair that length! It really works with the pink, too.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm right there with you on the multiple makes. I've lost count of how many Scout tees I have!
Lovely dress, and I absolutely love the haircut AND color!
ReplyDeleteThis version is great on you! Also loving the short hair!
ReplyDeletelove the hair!
ReplyDeleteI love your haircut! You can do alot with that hair length.
ReplyDeleteGreat work on the dress - cant wait to see the others
Love the hair!!! And the dress too - I remember making similar dresses and wearing them all the time.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your haircut. It is such a flattering style on you!! The dress is awesome, too (of course!!)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving this new look on you!
ReplyDeleteOk, this pattern has now been moved to the front of the line in my sewing queue. As soon as I finish my third version of your bow tie blouse, that is! It's adorable on you and the haircut is fantastic too. Thanks for being a constant source of inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThe new dress is really pretty and you look great on your new hair cut:)
ReplyDeleteYour haircut is adorbs! and so is your dress! You are getting a lot of mileage out of that pattern.
ReplyDeleteI am a HUGE Courtney fan, and your tribute to her is awesome!
ReplyDeleteCourtney Love follows me on pinterest. I pinned this on one of my boards do you think she will notice?
ReplyDeleteThis look is incredible and perfect on so many levels. Courtney Love should look this good! I especially love how your hair frames your face.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous hair, and gorgeous dress too. I'm glad I'm not the only one who ends up making multiple version of the same pattern; I'm making my third Simplicity 1883 at the moment (and thought of you, Gertie, as this one is Mod-inspired!).
ReplyDeleteGertie you look so cute! Bravo on the dress and the hair can't wait to see the others!
ReplyDeleteLove this look! Xx

Love this hair length on you, looks so much better with your hair colour much more edgy. Dress is great. Have you lost weight btw? https://www.facebook.com/SassySewingBees
ReplyDeleteThis haircut and dress are very flattering on you. One question though. A while ago you said you didn't like short dresses/skirts because of your legs. What on earth do you think is wrong with them? :-) I'm been reviewing my own ever since seeing you get your pins out.
ReplyDeleteGreat dress, great hair :o)
ReplyDeleteYup, the hair looks fabulous! ANd the dress is so cute. I never liked it on Courtney Love but it looks fab on you!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is adorable. Courtney didn't wear hers nearly as well! :)
ReplyDeleteCute Little Summer Dress, it suits you well. I also like your new Hair style Looks Realy cool
ReplyDeleteLOVE your new look, Gertie! I'm a new fan saying 'hi' and 'Thank You'!! It only took since May to read your whole blog from the beginning (that was a lot of reading). Now that I'm all caught up, I will officially follow. I have learned so much. I found your site from your patternless full skirt tutorial because I wanted to learn how to sew, but was terrified of patterns. From what I learned on your blog (and from those of your smart followers) I got inspired to make my own patterns. I am now drafting and sewing my own wedding dress and Tulle skirts for my bridesmaids! I couldn't have done this without your blog.
ReplyDeleteWow! Congratulations Ayana. Most of us are self-taught sewists but your enthusiasm is thrilling!
DeleteDarling dress and a great revisit to the 90s! I totally remember sporting a babydoll dress which was terribly terribly short, but I loved it so much. I also went full throttle and wore over the knee high socks and chunky black shoes to boot. Loved that thing.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, I'm dying over your hair! Its so cute and I think a great change up. Love your long hair, but must say, this is a very refreshing look on you.
LOVE your hair!! And that dress is the perfect mix of cool and cute :) Especially with your hair and tattoos!
ReplyDeleteI love your hair! Adorbs! I used to rock a flip; every morning I would dry it with a special curling blow dryer.
ReplyDeleteYour legs look great in the babydoll!
Love your hair!! The whole look is awesome!
ReplyDeleteYour dress is even cuter than Courtney's, I must admit.
ReplyDeleteShort hair really suits you! And is that a purple streak I see? Lovely :). (Question: have you noticed any tendency for the colours to bleed into one another after washing? I've been thinking about some colour-blocked hair for the fall, but wasn't sure if it would go muddy at the edges.)
love this dress, love your new haircut and am dying (!) to see you kitty dress, it's going to be frickin awesome!
ReplyDeletenew haircut is super cute and goes great with the peterpan collar! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your new haircut, and I think you can now rock the pink hair even more!
ReplyDeleteLove the hair & the dress!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is awesome. And your hair looks great!
ReplyDeleteaaaaaawesome hair!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress there is just something so classic and cute about a black shift with a white collar!
ReplyDeleteYour Hair is gorgeous Again!! talk about hair envy It really suits you short :)

ReplyDeleteLOVE the hair! It's totally adorable! Dress looks fab!
ReplyDeleteGreat dress, love it (and the hair!)
ReplyDeleteLove the new haircut--makes you even prettier!
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely stunning! That dress is amazing and I LOVE the haircut!
ReplyDeleteI love the haircut and the dress - both adorable!!
ReplyDeleteYou always look great (hair-wise and otherwise), but this new short 'do is definitely my favorite! It really suits your face and pink hair :)
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFirstly, I love your hair It is a great length that somehow makes the colour even more punchy. Secondly, I love the dress (and I actually like it way better than Courtney's) The collar is really cute, I've been looking for some eyelet like that everywhere.
ReplyDeleteLove love love your hair--really flattering and cute...and I love love love the dress. I think yours is better than Courtney Love's. Now I'm really excited to try out that dress pattern!
ReplyDeleteYay Courtney Love! My middle school self is so happy about this dress. I think the whole Kinderwhore fashion thing is a lot of fun, but it's really not a *wearable* look most of the time. Go you for translating it into something you can rock everyday!
ReplyDeleteAlso the hair is lovely. How do you find it holds up to styling after being dyed? Did the texture change? As a fellow pink-haired person I've had some trouble with this, but YMMV.
Love this look! It's so cute on you! Your short hair is very sassy and cute!
