And the Dorkiest Couple Award Goes to . . .

Hey, if Jeff and I had known each other in high school and gone to prom together, this is kind of what our picture would have looked like! Of course, I probably wouldn't have been holding a giant pair of scissors. And the prom scenario would have been an impossibility in the time/space continuum since I am so much more youthful than Jeff. (Six years! I'll never let him forget it either!)

But why am I holding a giant pair of scissors, you ask? We were at the BurdaStyle book launch! And well, they were there. Jeff's glasses were another acquired prop. He now thinks he should get glasses like that, but I think he should step off my turf because I had Buddy Holly glasses first.

We had a great time at the launch. Beside a digital photo booth, there was also a lady giving glitter tattoos. (The line was too long for that, so I eventually gave up.)

But the guest of honor was, of course, the book itself.

It looks fabulous. I do have a project in it, this cute little bag variation.

I call it my "weekend in the country bag" and it was inspired by the casual straw handbags that ladies used to carry on vacation.

So that's the news to report on that front. I hope I can have a book launch party that's half as cool as this one was. (Note to self: find corporate sponsor asap.)

This weekend I'm teaching at Heather Ross's sewing retreat right here in New York City! It's being held at the Sewing Studio, where I work, so that's awfully convenient for me. Tonight we're having a private shopping event at Purl Soho. I'm sure I'll need to buy myself something pretty as a souvenir.

Also, my dad is coming to town and we're going to see Wicked on Broadway on Sunday. I can't wait to see the costumes.

Man, my life does sound kind of glamorous right now, doesn't it? Well, don't worry, I'm still writing this in my jammies drinking coffee. Some things never change.

Have a fab weekend, readers!

  2. Cute pic! My prom photos are from the '70s, 'nuff said there! And my novel's been on hold since DS was born ... maybe I'll get back to it after he goes to college in a few years ;-)

I'm up to hemming my Lady Grey, and may actually finish it in the next week!!

  3. My mister and I have a six year difference in age as well! It used to make him crazy that I was in grade school when he graduated, but he is over it now.

The book looks great; congrats on your inclusion!

I saw "Wicked" at the Kennedy Center a few months ago and adored it. I can't wait to hear what you think!

  4. You look so cute! My husband's 13 years older, so the prom thing would have never happened (yuck!).

I was out running errands yesterday & picked the mag with your circle skirt issue in it. I'm looking forward to reading the article.

  6. How fun! Love the paired glasses. This book looks interesting, I think I'll get it. I have been underwhelmed by some of the books that came on the market in the last couple of years.

  8. If Wicked is anything like the London show, the costumes are amazing, and can be quite distracting for a seamstress when trying to enjoy the show at the same time!

  9. Oh Gertie come out West and teach us here in LA! Pretty please with Sugar on top? I have a prom photo posed exactly like that, the cliched prom pose gotta love it. I can't wait for your book to come out and I am sure you will have a bitchin' book launch.

  10. I saw those giant scissors and thought it'd be fun to take a photo, but I forgot! It was great seeing the samples in person since there were a lot of details on the clothes that weren't as noticeable when looking at them in the book. It was also nice to meet you!

  11. Fun pic.The moment you said "Buddy Holly glasses" the Weezer song"Buddy Holly". Except if you're Buddy Holly then he has to be Mary Tyler Moore...

On a sewing note, my own prom dress was made with the Folkwear Pattern that is a replica of the Marilyn Monroe "7 Year Itch" dress. Love that pattern.

  13. You are the uber dorks of all time! Love it! My favorite photos are always the fun ones, like in costumes or acting silly, because they are associated with a fun event. We have one particularly hilarious photo where we are having an interaction with a camel. I much prefer it to the staid, posed shots from weddings and such.

  14. Such a cute picture! You and Jeff look wonderful - your life IS so glamorous!

I heard the costumes in Wicked were great - kind of Steampunk-y. Can't wait to hear your review! Enjoy!!

  19. I thought it was two tennis rackets you are holding. You and your sweetie look as if you are on your way to a game of mixed doubles. Hope you had lots of fun.

  20. Hahaha, great picture! The giant scissors does it all, and make it look slightly, eh, weird..? Love your outfit, by the way.

I flicked through a copy of the book at The Strand in New York last Saturday, and it sure looks great! I'll order it online soon (didn't buy it, because my suitcase was already loaded with fabrics from Paron).
