Hi Mom! I forgot to send your Mother's Day card, so I wrote you a blog post instead. Hey, the internet is forever, right? Just like diamonds. Kind of.
I haven't given up searching for the pattern you made your prom dress from (pictured above). Why is it so hard to find? I thought I was on the right track with this one, but it's different from yours in the skirt. Plus, I don't see a center front bodice seam on your dress.
Sweetheart necklines were pretty uncommon in the 1960s, as far as I can tell. You were a style rogue! The sheath dress pattern I designed for my book has a similar neckline to your dress. I think you must have influenced me subconsciously.
I hope you're having a nice day. I wish Jeff and I could be there! We love you.
P.S. Happy Mother's Day to all!
awww, Happy Mother's Day to Gretchen's Mom! Your daughter is adorable :)
ReplyDeleteI chatted with your mom when you hosted the trip to the Brooklyn Museum. She's a lovely person.

Happy Mother's Day to Gretchen's stylish mom! Thank you for influencing your daughter's love of satin, waist bows, and sweetheart necklines to mention what I'm sure is only a few..
ReplyDeleteI soooooo want that dress pattern your mother made.
ReplyDeleteI would make it in black linen, cut it above the knee, and wear it with cute flat sandals.
I will look for it and let you know if I find it!
I wrote a blog post to my mom for mother's day too! LOL
ReplyDeleteDear Gretchen's Mom, thank you for inspiring the creativity and style that your daughter shares with us. You obviously were a fine mentor.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she modified it or made a frankendress? I prefer your mums skirt to the one on the pattern.
ReplyDeleteCould it be this one, with a bow added? http://www.sovintagepatterns.com/catalog/item/1670958/8270980.htm
ReplyDeleteWhatever it is, your mom rocks it! :)
