Katy Perry in Dior Haute Couture

Isn't Katy Perry's Vanity Fair cover lovely? I love her hair, the peachy Dior corset, and the vintage-y wallpaper background. It gets even better inside.

Girlfriend was photographed in DIOR HAUTE COUTURE in THE LOUVRE. Color me jealous. This was one of my favorite pieces from the Spring 2011 couture show. Isn't the skirt length sheer perfection? Also love the shoes.

Here it is on the runway:

Ms. Perry also wore the show's piece de resistance, complete with the runway accessories. On a carousel! Wheeee!
I often wonder how these gowns get transported all about. Because there's only one of each, right? And then they get loaned to various magazines? The Vanity Fair shoot was done in Paris, so I guess the garments didn't have far to travel. (To see more dresses from this show in action, check out TLo's post on a recent Vogue Italia editorial.)

But back to Katy Perry. Women often seem to have a strong feeling about her either way. I think she's gorgeous, and her music is a bit of a guilty pleasure. She's had some foibles ("Ur So Gay?" WTF?) but I have a feeling she may redeem herself in time. Also, I like Russell Brand. There, I said it.

  1. I love ms Perry! she's that wonderful mix of beauty and quirky! Gertie, you're not the only one jealous of that shoot in Paris!

  2. I'm not a huge fan of Katy Perry, but I like this photoshoot. The resemblance with Dita Von Tesse on the front cover is uncanny.

  3. Not sure I could even sing one of her tunes (even though my 10 year old daughter is a fan) but I do like her persona. I think she and RB form a really cute couple (it helps that I think he's very funny). I don't get the hate so many have for them.

And those dresses are stupendously, wondrously amazing... sigh, why Galliano, why did you have to go and ruin it by being such a jerk?!!! Having given him the benefit of an alcoholically sodden doubt at first, now that he's out of rehab and his lawyer has walked out on him, one can't help but wonder...

  4. Can't say I'm a fan of Katy Perry, but this editorial does look gorgeous and the dresses are stunning! I always find it interesting to see couture gowns in more casual editorials and the different angles than what you see in the runway photos. That second ensemble is drop dead gorgeous!

  5. I love Perry! Granted, her music is, well, juvenile (who doesnt feel 15 singing "we fight, we break up, we kiss, we make up"!) but I like her public persona a lot. And she has made son bold fashion choices, although other may say questionable. I mean, this woman was on stage dressed as a snowman, merry-go-round and fruit bowl! Plus I adore Russell, no apologies here.

  6. I love Russell, too.

That photo shoot looks awesome. Must go buy me a copy of VF.

  7. I love Katy!! She is stunning and seems like a genuine and fun person. :) And this shoot...wow! Dior haute couture is flawless. I agree with Nathalie—John Galliano is so frustrating!!

  8. I like Katy Perry and I've never gotten the Russell Brand-hatin' that I see on the Internet. I think he's hysterical!

But when I first saw the picture, I thought she was Deeta von Teese. The first Dior is TDF, but I still have a very bad taste in my mouth from Galliano's outburst. Too bad that he had to ruin such beauty.

  9. I was so glad to see John Galliano pieces featured! Katy Perry...Well. Her fashion is usually good. I adore that red dress, I gasped when I saw it on the runway!

  10. Katy Perry's songs are catchy... I'm not a fan of her voice, but if someone else were singing, I'd be all over 'em. I love her clothes, too. (And aw, Russell Brand is adorable. I didn't know he was reviled!)

And those Dior gowns... well. Maybe I do hate her now, haha.

  11. I adore Katy Perry, I think she picks good music and knows her limitations. Plus, I feel like she has crafted a cool image mixing the 1950s/1960s gidget-cum-pinup ideal with the sort of carefree pop irony of the late 90s early 2000s (sort of like Britney Spears singing "I'm not that innocent" while wearing a latex bodysuit).

I think this shoot really plays to her image and refines it. Not to mention, unlike the waif thin runway models, Perry really has the curves to rock the silhouettes of the Dior gowns.

  12. Aaah, the red dress--it slays me. Can't you just imagine the sounds it makes as you move in it? It's a living thing!

  13. I adore Russell Brand. He makes me laugh and he's rather clever. Isn't that what makes men attractive. No real opinion about Katy. But she interests me because she's with Brand...

  14. Count me in on the guilty pleasure. Her songs are so fun and cheerful, and who doesn't need more of that? Her fashion sense is a little hit or miss for me. Those fruit rompers she's so fond of? Dear lord, she looks like a giant infant. I'm sorry but no one over the age of 5 should be in a romper, no matter that you have Katy Perry legs. Although I do appreciate some of her retro style and her love for bright colors. And I love her one-piece in this magazine cover. Very classy. She also looks smashing in those dresses.

  15. I'm with you on Katy Perry and this photo shoot with one caveat... that cover shot. Her boobs just don't fit it right! Bless her for being well endowed, but couldn't they have put her in something that was tailored to fit her better?

  16. I don't know her music, but I appreciate her persona. I like my celebrities like a birthday cake; tacky, sweet, colorful, sparkly and more than slightly guilt-inducing. The editorial is tons of fun because it's well outside of her usual look.

  17. No the fit on the cover isn't great and I wonder how much shoehorning it took to get her into the silvery blue gown. They just don't make samples for boobs like hers!

But that's the best I've ever seen her look. Especially in the red dress (which I loved too). And she seriously should put the make-up artist from the shoot on her payroll. She's guilty of terrible make-up at times but she's just perfect here.

This months UK Vogue have a couple of Dior pieces featured which I was pleased to see. They're too gorgeous not to be seen.

Oh, and so glad to see some Rusty love :) I've got so used to seeing him being ripped to pieces since he crossed the ocean.

  18. I agree with Grace, the front cover corset doesn't fit her. Other than that, gorgeous photos. I don't really have a firm opinion on Katy, I think I like her. Her outfits do make me smile.

  19. Not only curious how they transport them, but how do they make them fit the actresses in the magazines if they were originally worn by a tiny super model of a completely different body type?

  20. Can't stand Katy Perry, and don't understand why I am constantly being required to gaze upon her side cleavage. Does NOTHING fit the woman?

  21. Gorgeous photo shoot oh to be able to wear some of those creations. I like Katy she is quirky in a watered down mainstream kinda way!

  22. Oh, I wish I could dress like that! I wish girly wasn't so far gone from western society! I agree with you Gertie - I LOVE her hair!

  23. I have never been a fan of promiscuity. Even when presented in a casual, light hearted or comical way by either gender. I know that we can't truly know what celebrities are like unless we are 'there' (that goes for designers too). As I raise 3 kids I increasingly see the importance of how we act and what we allow into our lives as acceptable. I think I might have snapped when Katy tried to show cleavage with Elmo. Really! You can't cover up your boobies for my toddler. Thank God they had the sense to not allow that.

  24. she looks gorgeous on the cover!

  25. I like Katy's looks and some of her music (I find "Extraterrestrial" irresistible as a dance track right now) and really like anyone willing to show their flaws even it's just to shill Proactive. I'm not sure if I like Russell Brand as a comedian, but I love Aldous Snow, and own the hilarious Infant Sorrow cd.

That hem length is stunning! Right at the ankle, no truncated leg- and shows off the shoes!

  26. Love this photoshoot!!! And have to agree with Popbabe7: thought at first sight I was looking at Ditta von Teese... This inspired me to try a pattern of a Balmain dress!!
And Paris is only a 4-5 hour drive away....

  27. I like Katy Perry's persona and some of her fashion choices. She's always interesting, and not in a Lady Gaga way but in an "I might wear that, toned down" way. Don't like her music, but there is worse stuff out there.

I enjoyed Russell Brand's "Booky Wook" and find him similarly intriguing as a character.

The dresses are red carpet gorgeous -- beautiful, but I can't imagine where one wears them aside from the red carpet. Or possibly, the Louvre.

  28. The gowns are gorgeous!

  29. I like Katy, but overall I love her style in this photos!
I would like to wear one of these wonderful dresses (maybe the red one *_*).

  30. Love, love, LOVE Katy Perry. Don't quite get why there's so much hate for her (I suspect jealousy over her figure...). She does get a lot of criticism over the size of her breasts (not that she can control that). I suppose she could control what she chooses to wear, but honestly, why leave such clothing to those with boyish figures? I love her because she's proud of who she is, doesn't care what others say, and as hit-and-miss as she is with her clothing, music, etc. she is still such a very real, down-to-earth, honest person. Those who know her always say that about her and I think it's true. That being said, I ADORE the red gown, the length of the skirt, everything. You know how often times an outfit on the runway doesn't look quite so stunning on a real person? Must have something to do with dozens of coordinators making sure the garment hangs right and such...anyways, it looks fantastic on her and hangs on her body like a dream.

  31. Don’t like her music, and as for her style I’m not sure if it is really her or just her music image? She seems to become a younger and more fashionable version of Dita. I think that what irritates people about her and the way the press always focus on her big boobs. Her boobs aren’t particular big they are probably only a D cup. I think they purposely make her tops a little small to showcase them and get her press.

  32. I'm not that interested in Katy Perry, but her coloring is just perfect with that red dress and the front cover. The black hair and blue eyes give a great contrast. I'm so crazy about it.
And yeah, at first glance I thought it was Dita too. :)

  33. ooo lovely dress's especially the red one but they all look fab!
I'm swayed on katy perry i usually like her but since the whole twitter-gate with calvin harris I'm not so sure :(

  34. Oh,j'adore that red ensemble... so, so much! So, so much! Dior is wonderful!

  35. I like Katy Perry. I think she's so cool because she doesn't seem to care what other people think, she just has fun and does what pleases her. Also, I like her style and I admire her for having fun with it. I am super jels of her Dior-arama but fair play to her, she looks amazing.
