Vintage Roses

Oh my. Look at this dress that just showed up in my reader! (Did you know you can subscribe to Etsy shops in your RSS feed? It's pretty awesome.)

Anyone seeing an uncanny resemblance in this print to the Kate Spade dress I posted yesterday?

Isn't that astounding? It's so close! In fact, it's close enough to make me wonder if the Kate Spade designer was inspired by this exact print. (Which, frankly, reminds me of the Kate Spade controversy over their book clutches, which were a little too "inspired by" another designer's work. Not to imply that I have a problem with KS using lovely vintage prints. I adore it!)

Anyway, the vintage dress for sale is pretty tiny (33" bust, 26" waist), but you should totally snap it up if it would fit you and you've got $275 to spare. As for me, I got a good lead on some similar fabric yesterday and I've also ordered some silk paints to play around with.

I think I could never get sick of rose prints (which might explain why I'm tattooed with 18 roses, with more to come). So lovely and classic.

  4. I love rose prints as well. Right now I am in love with this dress: http://www.pinupgirlclothing.com/evelyn-dress-yellow-vintage-floral.html, sigh.

My first tattoo was a traditional rose and everyone always asks me what it means. It doesn't mean anything-its just so classic and pretty!

  6. I've just recently started liking rose fabric - this is big for me! The Anna Maria Horner fabric from her current line is so rad. The roses are huge and it comes in blue- my fave! I don't think I'll be getting a rose tattoo soon, but never say never, huh?

Can't wait to see what you do with the silk!

  7. That dress is gorgeous & it's my size. Too bad that it's not my price though! Besides, at this point in my life, I've not no place to wear something like that.

  8. I would doubt the new dress was inspired by that exact vintage print because it's not an unusual print as prints go. I have a vintage long evening dress in the same style of print and colorway. The rose motif is not identical, though. I'd guess it must have featured in some designer collection one year and was copied for ready to wear.

  12. Oh my... now that is a coincidence! That print is just amazing on the vintage dress; too bad I can't fit into a 33" bust to save my life (and if I could find $250 lying around that was already earmarked for something! ;). lol. Now if only you could find yardage of similar fabric...

  13. Recently the designer for Kate Spade was in an article in Martha Stewart's Living Magazine. They were doing a spread on hobby collections, and the designer was showing her collection of vintage sewing patterns! Where she said many of her designs are inspired by vintage sewing patterns.

  15. Very pretty indeed. I would very much like to see what you come up with with silk shantung and dye-na-flow!

In the meantime, it's also a hunt for me to find those elusive roses just for the adventure of it. <3

  17. I'm totally addicted to rose prints, too. They're so elegant. And that dress is incredible: it looks like something from timelessvixen on etsy: they always always have to die for dresses that are out of my price range! Boo hoo. Thank lord for sewing!
