An Interview with Gretchen Hirsch, My Alter Ego!

Goodness, I feel famous! The lovely ladies of the new craft site Yay!DIY posted an interview with me today. I'm weirdly delighted with the title: "Eleven Questions for Crafty People: An Interview with Gretchen Hirsch." After going by my internet alias for so long, it's fun to see my full name in print! Yeah, I'm easily amused. Anyhoo, head on over and check it out.

  2. Congrats on the interview!

(Also, I'm an assistant at a literary agency, and you call for my boss all the time! Crazy!)

  3. Such a nice interview! I think the questions summarized your blog content pretty good (except for the gender discussions, but that's a parallel yet important part of your blog, I guess). Congrats on you popularity! How nice it must feel to be such a huge inspiration for others, not to say a modern seamstress icon... I hope you're enjoying it as much as us readers!

  5. What a lovely interview. Congratulations. It's really nice to read a blog that not only shows what is being made, but the struggles that occur when garment sewing as well. And I love the body image posts. They're so important these days. :)

  7. Congratulations on the interview!

Thanks for sharing those tips for beginning sewers. I've been trying to start sewing for years, ever since I was given a sewing machine as a gift! Pretty much all I've ended up with is a pile of WIPs that I got all mixed up with and gave up on. I think I'll check out the books you mentioned... or make some curtains! :)

  9. I liked the interview but was surprised at your answer of curtains as a first project...in my head that answer is always drawstring pajama pants. But your answer is better. The difference is that curtains show and really, nobody needs to see your pajamas. ;-)
And really, Aprons fit somewhere in there too.

  11. And here I thought *I* was your alter ego. A very interesting interview. I loved reading about your non-literary life.

But no matter how enticing the blog or interview, and no matter how you try to say that it's a learnable skill, I can't sew. I've tried. Wish I could.

So congratulations to you and all the others who've mastered it. I'll look on with admiration.

  12. Hi Gretchen: I loved your mom's interview - I hope I can meet her some day - I remember those days, except I learned on a paddle Singer sewing machine practicing on feed sacks that were washed - and yes, no pattern - just cut and sew!
