Coat Vlog #9: Inserting the Lining/Understitching the Facing

We're nearing the end, readers! In this vlog, I attach the lining to the coat, and then understitch the facing. You'll have to excuse my casual appearance in this video. It was a torn jeans and old sweater kind of day!

Let me know if you have any questions!

  1. Love seeing the progress on the coat. You must be so excited to wear it! In chicago, you just need great coats in the winter. Hardly ever does someone ever sees what you are wearing underneath it!

  2. . . . such an ambitious project--me, working on dress #4 from the same pattern . . . fun to mix up the look with pretty prints--throw on a decorative button or two and presto--a whole new look! (Only her dressmaker would know . . and that would be me!)

  3. I love that your casual look involves a sweater, torn jeans and a victory roll! You're too funny.

  4. I am very excited to see this come together. It makes it seem so much more --- possible, you know? You do a great job of making things accessible.

  6. Hi Gertie,

The coat is looking so good. I love the lining. I'm getting alot of good tips and confidence from your vlogs -- thank you.

I was practicing making a jacket this week and when I finished I tried to make button holes w/my machine and gah. What a mess.

Next time I'll go to Johnathans.

  7. Okay, I am going to really date myself but in the winter of 1957 (I was a senior in high school!!) I had a red princess style coat very much like yours in style except the lining of mine was red. I loved it and I know you will love yours, too. Happy 'swinging thru the streets of New York'.
