Readers, it's freezing outside. A warm coat interlined with lambswool would really hit the spot right now. Alas, I'm still constructing the lining/interlining on my lovely red coat, and I feel like I've been on this step for ages now. But I know I'm in the homestretch. Hallelujah!
The goal is to get the lining attached by Thursday. Why Thursday? Well, I'm going to have the buttonholes done professionally at Jonathon Embroidery in the Garment District, and they're only open weekdays. And Friday is a holiday. So that leaves tomorrow night to get that lining in there. I'm feeling optimistic, obviously. (I also want to do at least one more vlog for you, showing how the lining goes in.)
So . . . we'll see. But I thought I'd give you this little sneak peek in the meantime!
Oh, it's beautiful! I know you've been working hard on it, and will really enjoy the finished product. Congratulations on such a big sewing milestone!!
ReplyDeleteThis collar pic is such a tease. I can tell it's gorgeous! How wonderful that you'll have it finished for the new year.
ReplyDeleteoooh! Pretty!
ReplyDeleteI made a shawl collar coat this year in dark grey wool with fluorescent pink lining - I wish I had known that one could have buttonholes professionally sewn! It didn't even occur to me! Thanks for the tip...
Can't wait to see the rest of your coat...
It looks fantastic. Can't wait to see the finished product.
ReplyDeleteShawl collars are SO chic. And in red?? You'll turn heads on the street!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so gorgeous! The colour, the collar... Just from that tiny glimpse you can tell it's going to be a stunner. Can't wait for the full thing.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the idea to get the buttonholes professionally done on a big project like this. Buttonholes can be very scary! :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the coat on!
Gorgeous color!!!
ReplyDeleteThe collar looks very well made. Why do you get the buttonholes done professionally ? Does you sewing machine support the buttonhole function? Just curious ! Love your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteHooray! Go, go, Gertie! And --- I can't wait for VoNBSS to resume... :-)
ReplyDeleteFrom the little picture, I can see it's stunning. Congratulations. Can you show us how to hem the lining? Pretty please.
ReplyDeleteOnce you get your Bernina, you'll be able to do your own buttonholes!!

Your coat looks stunning, from here the princess seam and shoulder seam look very professional. Job well done, Gertie :)
ReplyDeleteAHHH!! I can't wait to see the whole thing... it looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI really want to see the coat finished!!! That red color is great!
ReplyDeletewow, it looks so beautiful so far!
ReplyDeletegreat job so far, it's going to look stunning on you!
ReplyDeleteThe sneak peak is quite enticing!!
ReplyDelete. . . sigh . . . with much fondness, I remember the days when I made 3 new dresses at the change of each new season . . . those days are long gone, but were so much fun . . . next project, finishing 2 dresses left incomplete for years and capping a few long sleeve dresses--a black bolero jacket sets off almost any dress.
ReplyDeleteNanile, I'm having the buttonholes done professionally because my machine does not do them well, especially with thick fabrics. There's a place here in New York that has industrial buttonhole machines that are amazing, and they'll do them for you for only a couple dollars each. It's so worth it!
ReplyDeleteSewJourner, a vlog on hemming the lining will be up tomorrow morning!
