But sewing clothes is a ton of work, so I sometimes feel bad that I put the effort in only to have made a style that no matter how great the fit just doesn't flatter me. My sewing time is precious since I work a ton, and it really frustrates me to finish something I then decide is awful on me.

So how do you deal with that? I have recently returned to sewing for myriad reasons; fit issues, passion for beautiful, well made clothing, a love for creating something with my own two hands and my love affair with iconic styles from decades gone by. You have it all right here. You have truly inspired me to delve into a deeper level of creativity. Thank you thank you thank you! Why are women all expected to look like malnourished prepubescent boys now? I find it is just another way to demean anything feminine and 'womenly'. Feminism to me is about celebrating women, in all the shapes they come in.Petalnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3259455441759015869.post-15043119258378343752010-02-10T14:20:58.983-05:002010-02-10T14:20:58.983-05:00On the part about sewing pattern sizes being so di...On the part about sewing pattern sizes being so different than retail: My experience was actually opposite. I have been sewing since I was very young, so when I finally started trying on retail dresses (for prom and such) I was kind of amazed that my size number was so much smaller than my sewing pattern size number!mollyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00119440096804533137noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3259455441759015869.post-88158405253371468312010-02-10T14:18:11.373-05:002010-02-10T14:18:11.373-05:00Ahh! I'm a blog junkie and I've found a new source. I just got my first sewing machine (old, off ebay) and I'm going to try to use it today. The goal is try to take steps to do the great things you do. Love the politics, commentary, and of course the clothes!Radhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01946279879863336523noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3259455441759015869.post-53685630415891322742010-02-10T13:29:49.464-05:002010-02-10T13:29:49.464-05:00Thanks, ladies! One does have to take a long hard look at one's body first, but the great thing about sewing is that it's all about working with one's body, rather than against it. You come to know your body's strengths and can look on far more dispassionately at the bits you don't like because you know you can work around them and maybe even enhance them. And that is such a rewarding experience...

Thank you for introducing me to Sally's blog and looking forward to catching up with it!Nathaliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11570545194570856281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3259455441759015869.post-24954830225690507342010-02-10T10:13:13.630-05:002010-02-10T10:13:13.630-05:00Love the post, so great!
